Large red lump on cervix ...

Hi all,

I've had bleeding from vagina area, heavy fatigue and frequent urination, for the past 6 months. The blood shows up on the tissue after I pee. At first I thought it was from my urine. Urinalysis showed blood in urine. So I was referred to Urology for the camera inside the bladder. They found a tiny cluster of what he thinks is irregular blood vessels. I have to go back and get the same procedure within 2 weeks this time with the consultant so he can clarify what it is. Also been referred for a CT scan of bladder area.

On Monday this week I pushed for a pelvic exam and the nurse at the health centre carried this out. She found a large red lump on my cervix. As the speculum went inside it was extremely painful and I had to tell her to stop, so she couldn't swab. She has referred me to for the two week fast track.

Of course I've been googling like my life depended on it. And scaring myself.

I had a smear in 2022 all clear. I realize it could be a large Polyp or a fibroid. Are they generally very painful to touch? From what I've read Polyps are usually painless. So because of my symptoms I'm worried and driving myself crazy. Would be great to learn from others experiences. All the best.

  • Hello Tedlassofan,

I am sorry to hear you have had all these issues. You did well to push for a pelvic exam on Monday and it's good that they are being thorough in their investigations and that you have been referred on the two week fast track. It is normal to be tempted to google in a case like this and to want to find out what this large red lump on your cervix might be but as you said rightly, this will only result in scaring yourself unnecessarily. Try and resist the urge to look things up on Google and while you are waiting and this is making you understandably anxious, I thought I would share with you these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

It's reassuring that your smear in 2022 was clear and as you rightly pointed out, there are so many other things it could be other than cancer and I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

I will now let other members of our community come and say hello and share their experiences with you. It does help to talk to others who are in a similar place.

    Best wishes,

  • I’m going through not quite the same but similar currently.

had spotting sometimes between periods and bleeding during / after sex along with cramping like period pains. Had an examination on Tuesday where she said my cervix was very red and inflamed looking and has also referred me on the 2 week wait pathway.

feeling very anxious about it all but trying to think about that it could be cervical ectropion or an infection or something else hopefully.

sorry it’s not much help or reassurance but I am dealing with similar. Hope you get answers from doctor soon with what yours is.
