Biopsy Results NOS

Hi

I had a hysterectomy at the end of August to remove a mass that was found during an ultrasound scan, from my uterus. It's been 3 weeks and nothing more received. But when looking at my patient records I noted there was a 'NOS' abbreviation. Is this my biopsy result outcome?

  • Hi Amee,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I very much doubt that your results would be able to be seen on your patient records, if you have not already been given them in person. As far as I understand, from the Breast Cancer website, NOS stands for "not otherwise specified." This is usually because, when the cancer is looked at under a microscope, it has no features that stand out as a particular type.

Did they say how long it would be before you got your biopsy results? It might be worth phoning your surgeon's secretary, to see if they are back yet. It can take a little while after they are back, before you are told of the results, as these are usually discussed at an MDT (multidisciplinary team) meeting, before they are shared with the patient. The MDT consists of all the care workers, involved in your case and they will usually decide between them, whether any further treatment is needed. I hope that you are recovering well following your hysterectomy and that you get some answers soon.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards.

  • Hi Amee

I understand your worry and frustration, I had a liver resection 6 weeks ago to remove a large tumor from my liver, I was told that the results of testing would be 4-6 weeks.  I rang my specialist nurse last thursday to see if the hospital had received them back yet, but they hadnt.

As Jolamine says, once they are back they have to go back to the mdt meeting even if they are benign.

I am just trying not to think about it and keep busy.

Good luck and I hope that you get good news soon.

    xx

  • Hi  Jolamine

Thank you so much fur your feedback.  I've had a hysteroscopy... Predictive text lol.

No one came and spoke to me after the procedure as I had va general anaesthetic, so I know nothing about what they've done. On my notes it just reads biopsy of left endometrium.  This was 3 weeks ago and nothing received since.

I wish you well too, on your journey.

    Thank you again

  • Hi Amee,

If you've already been waiting for 3 weeks, it would be a good idea to phone your consultant's secretary, or your specialist nurse to see if your results are back yet. Sometimes, we've got to nudge these things along.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Annie,

I am sorry to hear that you've been waiting for so long to get your results. Waiting for them, is one of the hardest parts of our cancer journey. As another week has now passed since you spoke to your specialist nurse, it wouldn't do any harm to give your consultant's secretary another phone call, to see if they are back yet. All mail tends to go to the secretary first, so she is usually the best person to contact.

Here's hoping that you get to hear soon. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
