Stomach ulcer

Hi,

I am a mother of 2 small children (aged 3 & 1). I’ve recently been diagnosed with a stomach ulcer (no tests- apart from for bacteria in stool which was negative, just based upon symptoms)(late July). I’ve been taking 15mg of Lansoprazole each morning but it really isn’t doing much for me. I’m due to visit my GP again early October as my tablets will come to an end. She’s said she wants to try a higher dosage for 4 weeks but I’m so worried. I just want a referral so they can rule out stomach cancer! I’ve had pain on & off below my breastbone, windy & burping, I’ve felt nauseous for months on & off but it’s almost every day now. I’ve also started to feel dizzy- not like I’m going to faint but spacey (a bit like being drunk). I haven’t lost any weight but I’m eating whatever I like & not gaining any (which is unusual as I’ve always struggled with my weight).  I’m trying not to worry but I can’t help it. I keep thinking my babies will have to grow up without me! I just need answers. I don’t know what the point of my post is really. I just need to get it off my chest as my partner doesn’t seem concerned.

Thanks for reading. Any words or reassurance or personal experiences would be appreciated.

  • Hello RJE19

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health problems recently and that you're concerned your symptoms may be related to cancer. It's good to hear that you're already seeing your GP about these symptoms and I wonder if you've spoken with them about your concerns that this may be cancer.

I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses before your next GP appointment for some advice. I know they will be happy to offer any information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that you not only get the reassurance you're seeking but that things begin to improve for you over the coming weeks.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
