Scared to have an ovarian cancer

Hi, I’m 20 years old female. I haven’t had my period for 4 months now, had bad pain in my ovaries. I went to my gp multiple times and have already said I don’t feel right. My gp didn’t want to give me a referral for ultrasound so I’ve done it in private clinic. Ultrasound showed I probably have polycystic ovaries. But yesterday I’ve received a call from my gp that they want to do a special blood test to detect an ovarian cancer. As I understood it’s CA125. They told me to wait for results around 7 days and I even don’t know what to think. Could it be possible to have polycystic ovaries and ovarian cancer at the same time. I feel really down.

  • Hello Olv,

I am sorry to hear about all the symptoms you have been having recently. I am sorry that you had to go down the private route to get a referral for an ultrasound and that it has detected you have polycystic ovaries. Try not to worry too much about the CA125 blood test and we have information on the CA125 test you may be interested in having a look at. Make sure you tell your GP too - in case they have not been made aware - about the ultrasound you had done privately and the fact it flagged that you probably have polycystic ovaries.

Try not to worry too much about this test and it's good that they are being thorough in their investigations. It won't be too long now until you get some answers and I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern. Have a look too at our helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for news which I hope will give you some good advice while you are going through this anxious time.

    Best wishes,
