High calprotectin and FIT

Been passing quite a bit of bright red blood and bloody mucous in stools on and off for the last few weeks. FIT has come back as >200 and both calprotectin results are in the 250-350 range so I have been fast tracked to gastro appointment. Blood tests results are almost all abnormal especially liver tests.

Gastro appointment was made immediately after referral for just over a weeks time. I know I should just wait until Specialist has done tests but I can’t help but worry and think the worst.

  • Hello DTW

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some problems with passing blood. It's good to hear that you've already seen your GP and that an appointment with the Gastro team has been made. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult. It can sometimes help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk with one of our nurses ahead of your appointment next week. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on DTW.

    Best wishes,
