Very high FIT test

I am new to this group and recently received a very high FIT test result and low iron diagnosis. I have been referred for a colonoscopy and await a date under the two week scheme.

how do people cope. I am 39F with a lovely family and 9 year old boy. I am already fearing the worst. I cannot eat which is making me lose weight nor sleep and I feel like I am not going to be able to cope.

any words of advice would be appreciated at this horrible time.
sending love to all of you x

  • Hi Meg you're bound to be scared ,I was in fact I've seen many on here and I'm sure they have all been scared its a natural reaction ,but its much more likely to be something much less worrying than what you are thinking ,there's so many reasons for a positive fit test mine turned out to be Diverticulitis a polyp and internal piles ,the good thing is you are getting checked out and also high test results can go up into the hundreds and still be something else so try and relax if you can and eat something small to keep your energy up ,this is a good site to ask questions .

  • Thanks for replying Jenny. I am not sure the relevance of the high tests and whether this is worse or not or if this just indicates the amount of blood. I am really panicking. How long did you have to wait for your initial colonoscopy? My referral was sent last night. Thank you for taking the time to reply x

  • Mine was almost 2 years ago now end of 2022 ,it depends where you live but mine only took about a week but since then there seems to be big backlogs in the NHS so it may be a bit longer now ,also they will try and tell you on the day whether they have seen anything worrying or not .

  • Thanks Jenny. I hope they are quick with this
