5.8cm lesion on ovary

A week ago I was taken to A&E with severe pains in my abdomen which they though might be appendicitis or kidney stones. After a CT scan they found a 5.8cm lesion with free flowing fluid on pelvis (that didn't appear to be blood) on my ovary and have been referred for an urgent ultra sound for further investigations.

My doctor says she doesn't suspect cancer however, I keep getting myself in a panic and I don't really know who to talk to about it as I don't want everyone around me to panic as well.

The reason I keep panicing is because I have been here before with a lump in my breast which the doctor told me was probably nothing but after each test the news just kept getting worse and it turned out it was cancer.  It was removed and I was given the all clear last year.

The Internet isn't helping because the news on Ovarian Cancer doesn't seem to have a very good outlook (I know I shouldn't Google but that is easier said than done when you are sitting by yourself).

Does anyone have any advice to get me through whilst I wait for my tests and results. Also any good news stories that might make me feel better would be great

  • Hello Branchette38

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some health issues which led to a lesion on your ovary being found during a CT scan. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about what this may be, particularly given that you've previously been through treatment for cancer.

We know that for many people this period of uncertainty and waiting can be very difficult and it's natural to have questions and concerns. Hopefully you won't be waiting too long for your ultrasound and appointment with the gynaecology team and they will be able to give you some reassurance.

In the meantime, you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that you have some answers soon Branchette38. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
