Possible breast cancer

Good morning

I went to the GO 2 weeks ago because I found a lump in my right breast. I’m 47 years old my Gp referred me to the breast clinic through cancer pathways I’m there this Thursday 5th September I’m so s red since seeing the GP I have more lumps and some are very painful especially near my armpits. I know you can’t diagnose me but does this sound like cancer? I’m extremely anxious . Thank you for taking the time to read my post

  • I'm in a similar situation. Im 40 I found a lump last week in my right breast about a week before my period went to doctors who checked both and found a 2cm round lump in my right breast. Did bloods which are clear and a 2ww referral to screening clinic. Got the appointment through for the 4th and I am absolutely terrified. It's the first one I've ever found and doctor wouldn't give me any info they didn't even tell me the size I had to find that put from the NHS app. I have moments like now where I'm ok then moments like last night where my thoughts run out of control and I can't help but think the worst. With our ages it could just be normal hormonal and breast changes. I can't tell you not to worry as I'd be a hypocrite but here if you need someone to worry with and go through the worry together.

  • Thank you so much for your reply, I had an hysterectomy 4 years ago it could be hormones. I really wish you the best of luck and I’m here for you too. What time’s your appointment on the 4th? Mine 14:10 on the 5th. I never knew it told you in the app I’ll have a look, I’ve literally cried today it feels like my right breast is on fire and it’s painful please please keep me informed

  • Hi lovely no I haven’t been given antibiotics. Thank you so much for your kind words and I will xx

  • Hi they found a lump under my breast and at the top they’re quite big, occasionally painful I’m anxious too and was referred urgently I’m there tomorrow. We’re here if you need a chat xx

  • Hi xXLauraXx,

I am glad to hear that all seems to have gone well at your appointment today and I am delighted to hear that your consultant and radiographer both suspect fibrocystic changes. We are often sore for a while after a biopsy. I hope that the pain doesn't stop you from sleeping well tonight.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Grimes,

It is unusual to have pain with breast cancer, However redness and heat can signify infection. This can usually settle quickly with antibiotic treatment. I shall be thinking of you on Thursday and hope that you find a simple answer.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Lulebore,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that you are waiting to get an appointment for the breast clinic. Don't worry about the "urgent" referral. Most breast problems are referred under the 2 week "urgent" referral system.

It is only natural that you are anxious about the possible findings - we all get worried. Of all the people, who attend the breast clinic, only 20% will get a cancer diagnosis. many end up with a diagnosis of benign cysts or fibrous changes.

Whatever you do, while you're waiting, try to avoid consulting "Dr Google". Much of the information there is out of date, poorly researched, won't give you any answers, but will scare you even further. I hope that your consultation comes through soon and that all will turn out well.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

Jolamine xx (14 year survivor of 2 bouts of breast cancer within in year)

  • Good morning, Thank you so much for your reply and lovely comment  I’m there this afternoon so I will keep you updated do they tell you the results on the day?
    kind regards

    xx

  • I got the mammogram and ultrasound results as they thought they were there in the room. If biopsy is needed that can take two weeks it seems.

They give you a pretty good idea what they suspect if they are anything like the hospital I went to.

Got my fingers crossed for you today hoping you get positive news too xx

  • Thank you so much I’m so scared I haven’t slept all night. I’m just so worried xx

  • How did you get on at the breast clinic? My appointment tomorrow

  • Hi Lulebore,

You are not at all stupid. This is always a scary time. I am sorry to hear that your sister was diagnosed last year, but glad to hear that she is fine now. I had lost my mum to breast cancer before I was diagnosed, so understand your concerns. I have since had 2 bouts of BC myself, but that was 14 years ago now and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life. Many people here have had lumps under in their armpits. It is impossible to say what these are, until some tests have been carried out, so here's hoping that you'll be seen soon at the clinic.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Update

Hi everyone, after a torture waiting for 7 days , Today I went there to breast clinic ( urgent refer ) Good News, everything okay! I was refered after finding a lump on my left armpit, today , the Doctor did examination , and he felt some lump in the right breast, I was petrified , Dr ordered Mammogram snd ultrasound for the left armpit lump, and right breast I mention above, everything was okay  both me snd my husband were so so scared, my husband seamed positive at home but in there he was so lost, I felt so bad , I felt bad for him , I will never forget how I felt and the look on my husband face

but just wanted to let anyone here know that I was almost dead and everything turned out to be perfect , so please try to not think like me , try to stay positive a little bit , my lump on armpit was painless( which I was scared) my right breast feels a bit of pain to the touch because I do have dense breasts ( thats why i guess).
thanks to Jolamine and Laura xx

    All the to everyone!

  • Hi Lulebore,

Thank you for the update. This is just the news that I was hoping for. It's amazing how we all expect the worst, but fortunately, 80% of people get a clean bill of health. I'm so glad to hear that all that worry was for nothing!

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
