Bowel

I’m a lifelong sufferer of slow transition from bowel and constipation. Recently visited Gp as laxatives were causing incontinence. She ordered a FIT faeces test which I have sent back and at the same time my regular 2 yearly faeces test came. One came came back negative and theFIT. Test abnormal suggested  2 week pathway due to haemoglobin detected with possible colon cancer. Panic has set in . On Tuesday I’ll be ringing the Gp . Has anyone else had a similar experience?

  • Hello Bavington,

You did well to visit the GP after you noticed that the laxatives were causing incontinence and I am sorry to hear that the FIT test came back abnormal. It can be worrying to be on the 2 week pathway but try and bear in mind that abnormal FIT test results do not necessarily mean that you have colon cancer. It's good that they are being thorough in their investigations and you will hopefully be seen though and will find out what has been causing these bowel issues you've experienced for a long time.

Best of luck for the phone call tomorrow with your GP and if you get a moment, let us know what they say. I hope that your GP will be reassuring and that they will shed some light on what is going on and what the next steps or tests might be. Other members of our community may have been through something similar before and I am sure that they will pop by and have some comforting words for you and that they will be happy to share their personal experiences.

    Best wishes,
