Scared to have an ovarian cancer

I’m 20 and 5 years ago I had a cyst on my ovary which was completely fine, filled with fluid. I haven’t checked my cyst since then.
From May this year my period started being unstable. I have had no period for three months already. Also I feel dull pain in my right ovary and have strange bloating during the day even if I haven’t had a meal. I went to my gp a few days ago I said all my symptoms and has a referral for ultrasound skan for my thyroid(because I used to have tumor in my thyroid before). This week I’m having a blood test for my ovaries. I asked my gp can I have a skan for my ovaries too, but she said we’ll do blood test first and if something doesn’t seem right I’ll give you a referral to ultrasound.

I’m a bit scared about my symptoms if somebody experiences smth like this please let me know. It may be just a cyst and I’m just overthinking, but it’ll be lovely if someone can share their story with me.

Thank you.

  • Hello Olv and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about your symptoms and for the worry this is causing, but it's good to see your GP is taking you seriously and doing all they can to find the cause.

This must all be very scary but I'm glad you've joined us as a lot of our members will know what you're going through, so you are not alone Olv, and hopefully it won't be long until you receive some support and advice.

If you'd like to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They also have their own section on the forum called ask the nurses where you can make another post about this if you'd prefer. Our nurses are very knowledgeable and will do all they can to address your concerns and put your mind at ease whilst you wait.

I hope your blood tests go well and that the results bring good news when the time comes.

    Kind regards,
