CA125 elevated with normal ultrasound. Very worried!!

Hi,

Just looking for some advice or hopefully reassurance that it’s not all doom and gloom.

I’ve recently (2 weeks ago) had a CA125 blood test done which came back at 41. As I had the test on the last day of my period, they retested last week and it had come down to 36. I had an ultrasound yesterday and was told there were no signs of concern with my womb or ovaries. I thought all was ok until I visited my GP again for a review she’d booked in this morning.

Even though my CA125 level has come down a bit and I have had a clear ultrasound, she is concerned the number is too high still and because I’ve also been having bowel and urinary issues (currently under gynaecology for urine issue and awaiting a gastro appointment for bowel problem where I’ve been having diarrhoea/constipation) she has referred me back to gynae under the 2 week pathway for suspected gynaecological cancer.

i felt relieved yesterday when I had my ultrasound and now I fee so stressed and worried.

Has anybody been in a similar situation? The only thing found on my US yesterday was a tiny fibroid which I’ve had for several years.

Any advice would be greatly received.

Many thanks for taking time to read this.

  • P.S. I am premenopausal and still have regular periods.

  • It's great to hear that your ultrasound came back all clear Emma although I'm sorry you've been referred back to gynaecology for further investigation.

I know this must be a very worrying and stressful time but I hope knowing that quite a few members have also contended with elevated ca125 levels will help you feel less alone and I'm sure it won't be long until some of them stop by to share their experiences and advice.

If you feel it may help to talk things through with someone then our team of cancer nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very knowledgeable and will do all they can to support you and answer any other questions you may have at this time.

  • Thank you for taking time to read my post. My appointment is in 12 days time (unless there’s a cancellation). I thought it was a good sign that my CA125 had come down from 41 to 36 in a week and felt reassured when I had the clear ultrasound but my GP said I still needed to be referred back on the 2 week pathway. I asked if I could test again for the CA125 this week which would be 2 weeks now since my period ended but she dismissed that and just wanted to make the referral. Now I’m terrified of what else they may find that’s caused a raised CA125 result. X

  • I'm sorry your GP didn't allow you to take the test again, but I do hope some of the information provided on this webpage about the ca125 blood test will help alleviate some of your anxiety whilst you wait.

I know the next 12 days are going to be tough but we are here for you Emma and sending all our support your way.

    Kind regards,
