Coping with stress of waiting

An colonoscopy about four weeks ago showed a fairly large tumour. At the beginning of August though, the consultant said it didn't seem to be cancerous and he would arrange for it to be removed endoscopically. Obviously I was very relieved. He explained that it would be good to get it done as soon as possible. Then I got a phone call from the hospital which said they were now advising further tests before removing it.

I have now been waiting more than a week and no sign of an appointment. I am getting so worried because the delay will probably make the outcome worse

I am finding it very hard to cope with the stress. Any tips would be welcome!

  • Hello Pebblybeach

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had a colonscopy which revealed a tumour and that despite initially being told you would have this removed as soon as possible, you're now waiting for further investigations. It's understandable that you're feeling worried.

I know that many of the members here will agree that tthis period of waiting and uncertainty can be very difficult and it's natural to feel anxious about things. You might find it helpful to have a look at this thread about how to cope with waiting. You might also find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses for some advice, information and support. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

If you don't hear any update from the shotpital soon, you can always contact the PALS team. It's part of their role to help resolve concerns when using the NHS.

I hope you have some news soon Pebblybeach. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
