Endometrium thickness 21mm premenopausal

Hi

I saw the GP due of bleeding/spotting on off and got referred to gynaecology. The consultant at gynaecology did a transvaginal scan and said my endometrium is very thick. 21mm and is a bit bizarre. She has referred me to biopsy and on a 2 week cancer pathway.

Am worried sick. Anyone with this thick endometrium here can advise. Am 43 and pre menopausal.

  • Hello,

I can’t give you any advice I’m afraid but I’m currently in the exact same scenario as you. Endometrial thickness picked up on 2 scans. I got referred to gynaecology and after some pushing from my side they put me on the cancer pathway and I’ve got a hysteroscopy and biopsy  booked in next week. I’m worried sick and extremely anxious it’s more the waiting that’s bothering me. I’ve had extreme bleeding for almost 2 years now and it’s taken 14 month for me to get to this stage after my concerns being dismissed. I hope you get somewhere shortly.

  • Hi there

hope you are ok and got some good news from your tests. I am now in the same position 26mm endometrium, heavy bleeding and awaiting biopsy.
Would really appreciate if you could share your experience.
    thanks

  • My biopsy came back clear and they then discharged me and put me on the pill. I feel like I was just fobbed off. I’m still bleeding, although not as bad but that’s due to the pill. I feel I’m not back at square one and once I stop the medication it will all start again. It’s like putting a plaster over the problem. Hope you get sorted soon. They said mine is just disruptive uterine bleeding with no cause…I don’t know how that is even diagnosed has there has to be a reason

  • Thank you so much for replying to me.
It is positive in that your biopsy came back clear so that at least it hasn’t picked up cancer which would be flagged.
I appreciate the bleeding is hard to cope with though.
how thick was your endometrium? Mine has gone from 19mm to 26mm in 3 months as I paid for a second scan privately.
thanks again your email is so appreciated,

  • I had three internal scans and my endometrium became thicker everytime. 13mm then 15mm then 19mm. I’ve not had one since I was put on the two week pathway then. I may look into a private scan to see if it is still thick as not only do I still have bleeding I still suffer with intense pain along my right side and my back. I wish I had pushed for an MRI if I’m being honest.
