Lymph nodes

im looking for some advice regarding going back to my GP. I attended just over a week ago with lymph nodes that have been swollen for around 3 months. I didn’t go sooner because I thought I was just run down and they’d go away. I also have significant fatigue which has caused me to stop doing any activity outside of going to work and looking after my children. I used to go to the gym and weight lift 3-4 times a week but haven’t had the energy to go in about a month. I am also falling asleep on the sofa immediately after my children are in bed, and I’m sleeping around 9 hours a night. I’m still completely exhausted. I also have extreme itching to my lower legs and armpits, which I’ve tried all sorts of creams for with no joy.

I saw a nurse practitioner who felt them and told me to come back again if they don’t go away or get bigger. I had some bloods done which showed low ferritin, and a low eGFR of 67, which concerned me slightly as my previous kidney function had been fine. I eat well, drink plenty of water and get good sleep.

Should I be going back to the GP? Is there anything I should be asking to be done? I work in healthcare and don’t want to be a pushy patient but I am concerned about my symptoms.

  • Hello Nursemum123

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health problems recently and that despite an initial visit to your GP practice, you're no further forwards with getting any answers. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned about your symptoms.

Please do make another appointment at the GP surgery. It may be that there is a simple reason for the symptoms that you've descibed that can be easily remedied but it's important to get things checked out. Please don't feel that you are being a push paytient.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
