Lump in breast and armpit swelling.. Waiting biopsy results

Really struggling.

Less than 3 weeks ago my Mum (age 66) could feel a painful lump in her lower armpit and breast pain. GP said likely a cyst but put under 2 week rule to be safe. Fast forward to earlier today.. Mammogram, ultrasound, 4 samples taken for biopsy.. results next week, CT scan in 7-10 days, I think from neck to pelvic area (by this point I was struggling) it's either from head to pelvic, or neck to pelvic. Staff member doing biopsy said swelling in armpit and lumps (think the latter maybe breast, again struggling to take all in) . I could see on the screen whilst biopsy was taking place at least 2 large black circles.

I'm absolutely petrified for my Mum, whilst she's in "it'll be OK mode" what I'm struggling with is the waiting period and she only had a rountine mammogram in April and it came back fine. The additional CT scan is really scaring me. Has anyone had anything similar?

Thanks in advance.

  • She's also got to have bloods taken, but had a rountine blood works early July and other than borderline diabetic was absolutely fine.

  • I was diagnosed with Stage IIB lobular breast cancer last year. All a bit of a world wind.
I had a tumour in my breast and cancer in 1 lymph node under the armpit.

I had biopsy and full CT scan to check it hadn’t spread anywhere else and thankfully it hadn’t.

most of the tests your mum is having is precautionary so please try not to worry until you know.

what I can tell you is there is life after breast cancer. I’ve been through all my treatment, surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and I’m back to work full time and fitter than I was pre cancer.

What people don’t know is there are many types of breast cancer and lots of treatment options available.

Breast cancer now run a fabulous free service if you have any further concerns.

sending positive thoughts to you and your mum xxx
