Consultant said “ most probably “

Hi

This is all new to me - had breast clinic appointment yesterday after a small lump found. Assumed it was a cyst as had them before . Have just turned 50 wit lots of celebrations in last few weeks. Swanned into clinic with not a care in the world . Came out four hours later having had two breast biopsies , titanium markers and a consultant who says it is very suspicious and that u most probably have breast cancer. He said as of. Ow we are trait g it as cancer . Two weeks wait  but was advised to get off HRT and get coil removed . All in hand for tomorrow. A, very shocked individual left . Have great support from family - but is this “ most probably “ a way of managing my expectations as everything I read says that it cannot be confirmed until biopsies back . Anyone else had a s8milar experience ? I am assuming it is cancer - is that the right approach or should I try to get my head into positive space ? This is all a bit daunting to be honest ! Advice welcome .

  • Hi,

It's difficult to be totally positive when words like 'most probably' have been said. I understand how you are feeling,  just allow yourself to feel your emotions but remember at this point you don't know for definate. I find it helps to say to myself 'whatever it is, I will just have to deal with it'. Hard, I know.

My situation is similar. I get my biopsy results Thursday (had 6 on one breast and 2 on the other). I was given grades left breast: 3/5 (not clear if it is or is not, right breast: 4/5 could be C). I have googled so much, which has not helped the wait.

Try and do something you enjoy to distract yourself meanwhile. I was spoken to as if they knew it was cancer. One nurse actually said 'looks like you will be having time off, with this!' I think the breast team like to manage expectations, but until the results are in...it's not 100%.

Hope you can find some peace meanwhile. When do you get your results?

  • Need to wait two weeks now so just going to try my best to remain positive and get my head into a better place . Thanks for sharing your experience . This stuff ain’t easy that’s for sure .
