Pressure in throat

Hi

I am currently waiting for an Ultrasound Scan on my throat.
A few years ago I went for tests and scans to which it came back that I did have a lump but it was benign. Although I never had a biopsy to confirm.

For the last few years my lymph nodes have remained swollen and 8months ago one just under my jaw became larger and painful. On 23rd May I finally got into see a doctor about it. He didn’t take me seriously and even though apparently he had referred me to the hospital for an Ultrasound Scan, nothing came about. It took me a further 7wks to get seen by a doctor after being seen by a nurse and appointments being cancelled twice. That Doctor and wrote a letter to the hospital to ask why my appointment has taken so long and to rush me through. Thankfully my appointment is end of August.
My anxiety is through the roof and each day my neck gets worse and worse. More and more pressure everyday like someone has got their hands around my neck . I’m trying my best not to worry but I can’t help but think the lump has become larger and it’s putting pressure onto my windpipe.
Basically aswell as swollen lymph nodes and a lump. I’m suffering with headaches, dizziness, pins and needles/numbness down my arms and legs, and a tight chest. I’ve also recently discovered that I have a Polyp and if I’ve read correctly, they can be linked to Lymphoma.
Has anyone had the same symptoms? For how long it’s been, the waiting is now really making me worried and I’m struggling to turn off. I’m trying my best not to think about it but in turn it’s all I can think of. I know it might sound daft but I’m not worried about the outcome as I’ve got every bit of faith in the NHS to help me if so. But it’s the waiting and not knowing what’s wrong with me that’s killing me.
Any help or advice, or if you’ve experienced this I would be so greatful if you could share your experience.

Thankyou

  • Hi so sorry you have to go through this, I was lucky I had a lump at my throat it was that bad people were commenting on it I went to the doctors and they said there was nothing to worry about, I asked to speak to my own doctor who came in and she said she would make appointment for the throat clinic so within 2 days I was seen they sent me for a biopsy which came back thyroid cancer and got appointment the following week to go in and get it out. Hope everything goes well for you and the NHS are amazing.

  • Hi,

I’m so sorry to hear that. So how long would you say the whole thing took from discovering the lump, to getting an appointment to getting results and having the lump removed? How are things now you’ve had it removed? Have you had results back to say you’re in the clear?
Out of all the things I’ve read up ( and I know I shouldn’t but I can’t help it), the one thing I strangely didn’t read up on was Thyroid Cancer. So I did some research last night and I’ve got all the symptoms. I’ve been suffering with headaches and dizziness and I’ve read that thyroid cancer can cause that if it’s spread. So I’m now concerned that the lump they found a few years ago, has it grown and spread. I can’t see a lump if I look in the mirror but I can certainly feel that my neck is swollen. All my lymph nodes are swollen (have been for the last 3yrs) and the pressure is like someone is strangling me in the area of where the thyroid gland is. I’ve now really got it in my head that is what it could be.
Thankyou so much for your reply. I’m just starting to feel like I’m doing my partners head in and just needed someone who’s been through the same thing to chat too, so thankyou so much. Again the outcome doesn’t worry me so much, it’s the not knowing that’s driving me crazy.
