Urgent Mole Referral

Hello all, I recently decided to get some moles on my arm checked out - one of them the doctor decided to have a dermatoscope image taken as it had an uneven edge. This image was sent through to dermatology at the local hospital and yesterday I received a text telling me I had been urgently referred to the dermatology outpatient and will be contacted when they can offer me an appointment. I’m currently supporting my Mum through oesophageal cancer and my mind has just spiralled. I understand that a biopsy is the only way to confirm or disconfirm anything but the fact that the dermatoscope triggered an urgent appointment is concerning me greatly. Has anyone had a concerning dermatoscope image which is completely benign? How likely is that?

  • Hi

I had a mole that was flagged under the 2WW it was uneven, changing size, shape and colour. Had it removed & thankfully it came back benign. My consultant told me that the majority of moles are benign and try not to worry, although that is easier said than done!

Hope you get an appointment soon, all the best!
