Multiloculated cystic mass on left ovary

 I have recently been diagnosed with having a 41 x 21 x 36 mm multiloculated cystic mass with a 20 mm

vascularised solid component within the left ovary.

Anechoic free fluid with deepest vertical pocket measuring 19.4 mm is seen within the POD. My CA125 test came back normal within range (16). My Dr referred me to gynaecology and they are now arranging for me to have an MRI done. I'm 48 and perimenopausal. I'm scared that this is cancer, as I know that the CA125 test can't always detect eatly stage ovarian cancer, and I don't know how long I'll need to wait for the MRI. I've lost 18lbs in 10 weeks without trying an awful lot, have had severe lower abdominal pain on lower left quadrant, and I feel pressure when I go to the toilet (either wee/poo). I've recently also had a colonscopy and they found that I have Diverticular disease also on lower left quadrant, so I don't know whether the constant dull pain/throb I'm feeling is to do with the cystic mass or Diverticular disease. Just wondering if anyone else out there has been through the same or going through it - waiting. How long is the MRI wait time does anybody know please? I feel like I don't think of anything else at the moment and struggling to concentrate at work. Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Sbloggs76,

I can imagine this is a very anxious time for you and it's understandable that you are finding it hard to concentrate after this cystic mass was found in your left ovary. It's reassuring that the CA125 test came back within normal range but it's good your doctor is being thorough and has referred you to gynaecology and an MRI has been requested.  I am not sure what the waiting times for an MRI might be but you could perhaps ask your GP or the hospital where it is being arranged what the current waiting times are.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who are going through something similar and who know what it is like to be waiting for a diagnosis. It can be so hard to focus on anything else or to resist the temptation to look things up online which never gives any reliable answers. We have these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern and that you can have your MRI and all your test results soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Lucie, thank you for your reply. I've found others on this forum who are going through a similar circumstance, and have managed to be in contact with them, which has really helped. I have an appointment with my Dr next week actually so I will ask her then - thank you. I didn't think it was something that I could ask as I didn't want to come across pushy, but it may alleviate some of my anxiety. I'm grateful for your advice and the link. Many thanks,

    Sam

  • Hello,

I am in a very similar position and have an appointment with gynaecological oncology tomorrow for a cyst described the same as yours but they’re referring me to as a mass as well? I’m really anxious but hoping tomorrow might provide more answers.

I had two MRI’s ordered due to high fit test and colorectal consultant querying IBD when they found this cyst/mass which was increasing in size. I’ve also lost 28 kg in weight in a relatively short time.

the first MRI I wanted there weeks and the one after four weeks but this wasn’t ordered by gynae - it was a finding which my colorectal consultant thinks may be the cause of my pain etc.

please keep me updated and happy to help answer questions after my appointment tomorrow if that helps!

  • Hi. Apologies for the late reply. I read your message but I was at work so thought I'd message you later to wish you good luck for the appointment yesterday, but I completely forgot. I'm so sorry. My head is struggling to cope with remembering things lately. How did your appointment go? Did you manage to find sone answers? On Monday this week my appointment letter arrived for my MRI. It's on Friday 23rd. I'm pleased that I didn't have to wait too long but the waiting even though I know it's only next week is testing my concentration. Did you say you had your MRI scans or are you still waiting for them? Please keep me updated. I'm thinking of you. Thank you also for the link you sent me, and for replying to my message. Honestly, it made my day knowing that there are such lovely people who show they care xx It means a lot x

  • Also didn't mean to say about the link. I'm literally losing my marbles. I think I'm a tad stressed and not really thinking straight! Apologies.
