Can someone please help me? Vaginal bleeding since October 2023

I've had bleeding in between periods since October last year, it's been every single day minus 31 days when it stopped after starting progesterone only mini pill but it started again 2 weeks ago.
It's not enough for a period and I would say 99% of the time it's only there when I wipe after going to the toilet, but I do wear a pad most days just in case and I have had a smear on them occasionally.

I have been back and forth to my GP for this obviously, I have been referred to Gynecology who are both convinced it's hormonal.

However I am obviously not convinced that it's hormonal, so I have had bloods, urine samples, vaginal swabs, ultrasound and I actually paid for a private transvaginal ultrasound this morning and part of the report are below...

""There is a suggestion of a small, very discrete polyp within the fundus of the endometrium measuring 8x6x9mm with an endometrial thickness of 7.3mm. Otherwise normal ultrasound examination of the pelvis"

I am absolutely convinced this is cancer, particularly because I have been having cramping as well. My periods have been normal until I missed the one in July due to starting the progesterone only pill.

Can anyone offer some reassurance please or anthing would be good   I am absolutely petrified.

  • A small polyp would absolutely cause the symptoms you are having, take the report to your GP and ask them to chase up your gynae appointment.

Don't be worried it's not an uncommon finding and most likely benign.

  • Hello, thank you for replying.

Would a small polyp cause the bleeding pretty much constantly for almost a year? Honestly I am worried sick. The cramping only started a couple of weeks ago as well so I'm thinking it's a new symptom and driving myself crazy

  • Is it worse after sex?

Have you had a recent smear test.

Polyps can bleed but should be treated if causing symptoms x

  • I had my smear test back in April which was abnormal, I had a LOOP proceedure to remove the cells, biopsy came back as CIN1 and no cancer present.

I'm actually to scared to have sex with my husband because of it  but when we did have sex a couple of weeks ago the bleeding didn't change, it was still just there when wiping. After I had the scan yesterday the cramping felt a little worse but it stopped being so uncomfortable after a while.

I'm sorry I don't know your story but do you really think it could just be a benign polyp? I have my ultrasound pictures and can see what she was talking about, I'll definitely be ringing my GP tomorrow...again.

  • My thoughts are that you need a hysteroscopy at hospital which gives consultant a much better look inside the uterus than a transvaginal ultra sound. They can also remove the polyp and  have it examined microscopically.

I have had a polyp removed this way and a coil fitted to try to treat abnormal cells in the uterus. Unfortunately that didn't work but I'm good now after a radical hysterectomy.

You may not have to follow my path but you need to know what's going on.

  • I am going to get on the phone again in the morning, part of me knows my GP won't give me an earlier appointment than the one I have on the 14th but it's just to long away, would it be worth going to A&E? Or am I just way overthinking this? I just can't bring myself down from this heightened constant state of anxiety

  • I wouldn't go to A & E cos of the wait times and I'm not sure what it would achieve. Think it's worth being 'firm' withe the GP surgery. Try not to overthink - easier said than done!
