Worried - due to see an oncologist next week as showing signs of possible nasal/paranasal cancer

I am waiting to see an oncologist next week, as I have signs and symptoms of possible nasal/paranasal cancer. I'm absolutely terrified. I'm a practicing Nurse which isn't helping how I'm feeling. I'm trying to stay positive, and keep my thoughts and feelings to myself atm. I have a loving supportive hubby whose worried too , and have a lovely family network who will support me, but not saying anything yet to them as it may not be cancer. So not going to worry them .

  • Hi Debs59,

I just wanted to wish you the very best of luck for your appointment next week. It's completely normal to be terrified in your situation as you are going through investigations for possible nasal/paranasal cancer and as you say being a nurse yourself, you know a lot about these things so it's not easy to switch off and not to listen to the medical knowledge you have accumulated over the years from your work experience.

It's good to try and keep positive while you are waiting to find out more and I am glad you have a loving supportive husband and family network - their support will be priceless and I can understand you don't want to worry them at the moment and are not saying anything - I am sure they would be there for you though so if it gets too much and you want to talk to your family about it, don't feel bad about doing it. This is why this forum is also a good place for you to come and offload talking to others who have been through this anxious wait for definite results before. As you rightly said, it may well not be cancer and there are so many other possible nasal conditions it might be so try to keep well away from the temptation to look anything up on Google as this will only make you worry even more. Only a few days to go now before you see the oncologist next week and I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern. In the meantime, as you will be spending the weekend understandably agitated and nervous with the wait, I thought I would share these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I will now let our members who have had similar nasal/paranasal investigations before come and say hello and share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
