Blood cancer

Hi I've just been referred to a hematologist due to my blood levels. My haemoglobin levels are 168 is this high. Also I cant stop itchingmy skin is very dry and I have red spots all over my body. In the last 2 months I have fainted twice I have very little energy and I constant cough however I put that down to smoking. Are these normal symptoms of blood cancer or could it be something else. My appointment is mot for 2 weeks so anxious for a bit of feedback

  • Hi Spyder7760 and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm very sorry to hear about all the symptoms you've been contending with and that you've been referred to a haematologist due to your blood levels.

I know this must be a very stressful and anxious time but our members are here for you, and hopefully you will hear back from those who have been in a similar situation soon.

Unfortunately I can't answer your questions about haemoglobin levels but our nurses may be able to offer some insight, so if you'd like to get their thoughts on this, do give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all that they can to help and put your mind at ease whilst you wait.

I know the next 2 weeks are going to be tough, but we're thinking of you Spyder7760 and will have our fingers crossed for a good outcome.

    Kind regards,
