Prostate cancer

My husband age 58 blood test showed high level psa 5.1 referred for mri that shows changes in prostrate that they say could be to do with age. We are worried now as they are saying biopsy needed to rule out cancer! Should get an appointment in next 2-3 weeks.
has anybody else or any bodies husband gone through anything similar for it to turn out not to be cancer and just symptoms of aging?

  • Hi Andipandi70,

I can imagine this is a stressful time for you and your husband as you are waiting to for this biopsy to rule out cancer and the 2-3 weeks wait can indeed feel like a lifetime. It's difficult to know really what caused this rise in PSA and what these prostate changes might be but it's good they are being thorough and carrying out all the necessary investigations so that you know exactly what is going on. Try if you can while you are waiting not to automatically assume cancer is present so keep well away from the temptation to look anything up on Google as this will only make you unnecessarily anxious without providing any reliable answers.

Many members of our community will have gone through something similar and I hope that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you. We also have these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Keeping everything crossed for your husband that the biopsy goes well and doesn't flag anything concerning,

    Best wishes,
