High FIT Test - 200 - Any advice?

Hello,

I have had some bowel issues for a while. Currently on Lanzsrapole for heartburn and an anal fissure.

The fissure has been around for a while and is slightly higher up then your regular fissure. It hasn't yet gone and I can still feel pain.

I also have constipation, passing stools around every 3 or so days. I have taken some laxative meds to ease this.

I was asked to do a FIT some months ago but totally forgot however did it earlier this week. I got a reading of 200> and have been referred for colonoscopy on 2 week wait. I am absolutely petrified about this and yes I have been looking at Dr Google.

Does anyone have any experience of FIT tests possibly passing a fissure on the way out hence elevating the result? I'm tempted to pay for a private one and ensure I'm on laxatives and see if that makes a difference in the reading.

Feeling very anxious and sort of a I don't know what to do space.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

  • Hello returnofchamakh

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health concerns and that your recent FIT test has resulted in you now being referred for a colonoscopy.

It's understandable that you're feeling anxious and have questions. Please try to avoid searching Google for answers as it won't give a confirmed answer to your particular situation but it will certainly leave you feeling more worried about things.

There are a number of reasons that your FIT result could have been elevated and it could be that the fissure you've mentioned is responsible for the result you've been given. However, the colonoscopy should give firmer answers and hopefully some reassurance.

In the meantime, if you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope that things settle for you soon.

    Best wishes,
