Cervix Smear Test

Hi,

I'm slightly concerned as I had my 3 year swab test done with 3 different types of swab. The first was a soft silicon brush, the second was a dry cotton wool on a treaded stick, & lastly a wet cotton wool tab ona stick.

My reason for asking is that when the GP showed me the second swab (being the dry cotton wool stick) I spotted a long thread that was loose from the tip & I am so worried that it has stuck inside my cervix & now may cause cancer as a foreign body is now inside. I pray that when I am on my period next it will hopefully come loose with the hot flow of blood but I am not 100% convinced.

So, I am asking if you ladies understand what my issue is here... Also can any of you reassure me if the cotton tread (even though very minor in size) can get stuck on the skin or I hope that the pressure was too heavy for it to be stuck. I don't know what to think now, but a small foreign object can be fatal... X

  • You really don't need to be worried about this.

It sounds like you had a cervical screening test and high vaginal swabs.

Remember that we use tampons that are similar in material to the swab all the time.

The cervical os opens slightly to let the endometrial lining out during our periods.  The vagina is self cleaning.  You are fine.
