Waiting for breast biopsy results

Hi,

My mum has yearly mammograms  at the breast cancer clinic, and on this years they have found something abnormal. she went back and had an ultrasound as well as an biopsy as they found thickened tissue and swollen lymph nodes on one side. We are still waiting on the results of the biopsy which was taken on the 24/06, and has now received and appointment for 11/07 which is just over 2 weeks of waiting.

I cant help but being an overthinker and since her having this done i have struggled massively with the fear of the unknown. Has anyone else been in a situation like this? i know everyone is different but i would like to hear other peoples outcomes whether good or bad. i am trying to keep a positive mind on the basis of things will be ok due to how long we are having to wait (i know its not that long but it feels like 2 years rather than 2 weeks.)

thank you in advance. xx

  • Hi LKP-7 and a warm welcome to our forum,

I am so sorry to hear that they have found something abnormal on your mum's yearly mammogram this year - it's good that she has been having these yearly mammograms and hopefully that means that whatever it is, it has hopefully been picked up early. It's hard not to worry or anticipate the worst but there could be a number of explanations for the thickened tissue and swollen lymph nodes and you will only know for sure once you have received these important biopsy results which could take a couple of weeks. Only 5 days to go now before her appointment which will hopefully shed some light on what is going on.

So many members of our community will be able relate to what you accurately describe as "this fear of the unknown" and I hope that they will pop by and share their experiences with you as well as their outcomes. You're right to try and keep a positive mindset and try if you can to stay away from the temptation to look anything up on Google as this will make you feel even more anxious and won't give any reliable answers. Have a look at our helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news. These are great tips to help you take one day at a time until your appointment on the 11th.

I am keeping everything tightly crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern,
