Waiting for breast biopsy results and rash so scared

Hi,

I am still awaiting my biopsy results which I had done Monday last week after finding a lump on my left breast, I am struggling with my anxiety, but since Thursday (3 days after biopsy) I have had a rash on the biopsied boob, it spreads a little onto my chest and the skin below my boob too.

I visited the breast nurse Friday as she wanted to check I was healing and that it wasn’t an infection, it definitely isn’t and she thinks it could be a skin irritation from the biopsy.

I stupidly googled and inflammatory breast cancer popped up, so now I am even more worried I innocently search for rash after biopsy and so wasn’t expected to be left feeling so scared!

My follow up appointment for after biopsy isn’t until next week, so I’m left with trying to deal with these feelings, the rash hasn’t got worse nor has it got better. It’s flat, blotchy kind of and it doesn’t itch or hurt. The nurse said to take piriton if it was uncomfortable but it isn’t at all.

Has anyone experienced similar? Or I would be grateful for any words of comfort

  • It could be an allergic reaction to antiseptic wiped on the breast in preparation for the biopsy. I had a massive rash four weeks after my lumpectomy and axillary node clearance. At first it seemed like a bright red rash which covered the breast, the axillary area and also the side of the chest almost down to the waist. I had blood tests in A&E but there was no infection, so certainly not bacterial. Later on I was covered in a flat rash all over the body with the exception of face and neck. I had been advised to have my covid booster jab 13 days after the operation so am suspicious that this added to the reaction. I was seen by a doctor who told me to ignore it and it would go away in due time. It did so after three weeks. I was also advised to take piriton by the breast cancer nurse but it made no difference so I discontinued it. Our bodies are strange things and I am sure mine dislikes unusual procedures! Yours is probably the same!
