Query womb cancer

Hi I'm sure there are so many of us waiting for that referral to gynaecology within the 2 week time frame.  I was OK a week ago and now paranoia kicking in. I'm 54 and not bled in one year, assuming I was now menopausal. I finally went to the GP after thinking my horrendous bloating and burning in my tummy was IBS again, but then I bled for 2 weeks, 2 days clear then another bleed which is still going on, now day 10. My throat is hoarse and sore, I'm always constipated. I'm freaking out thinking not only do I have cancer but that it's metastasised somewhere else! Anyone else freaking out?!

  • You’re not alone in freaking out. I’m in a similar position to yourself. I went to GP a few weeks ago as I had my second post menopausal bleed, first in Jan 24 which lasted a few days, and then second in June which lasted 14 days. Referred on 2ww pathway on the Friday, I was very quickly seen the following Wednesday at the local hospital. They attempted to do a hysteroscopy, due to lots of adhesions and internal scarring from 2 c-sections they couldn’t get past the neck of the womb to take biopsies. Consultant said they would do trans-vaginal scan and if that was ok then nothing further needed doing but if it showed changes they would do hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic. Impressively, I had my scan the following week. During that week I spent most of my time reading anything i could find on-line about endometrial cancer. After the scan the sonographer said the results would be sent to my consultant, due to all the reading I had done I asked her what the measurement of the lining of my endometrium was as from what I had read I knew if it was over 4mm then they would need to do the hysteroscopy to get biopsies, she said it was 11mm. I had the hysteroscopy done this Saturday and am now waiting to hear. I didn’t see a doctor after the procedure to give me any indication of what they saw or didn’t see, the nurse said the consultant would be in touch. Now i feel in total limbo and am overthinking everything that has happened and could possibly happen. I think no matter how hard we try to remain calm it’s so difficult as all we want is a definitive answer. From what I’ve read on here everyone seems to say that the not knowing is one of the hardest parts, so lets be kind to ourselves, accept that this is scary, and know we are not alone.

I hope you get your appointment soon and sending a big hug your way.

  • Thank you for that hug:) I've kinda had a couple of days of feeling calmer and talked myself out of having anything sinister. However now I'm proper scared again. I'm losing clots daily it's been about a month now with a couple of days off. Lots of family stuff going on too...thought I'd got this but really haven't. Hugs back at yer and hoping you have good news real soon x

  • Hi, I think veering between feeling calm and panicked is part of this process, I go from imagining I have had a cancer diagnosis and planning my recovery from a hysterectomy to thinking I’m being over dramatic and wasting everyone’s precious time and what a fool I’ll feel when the results come back normal!!

have you heard about an appointment yet? I wonder if it’s worth you letting your GP know about your continuing symptoms as they can update your hospital referral with that information.

    Hugs xx
