Confused as to why marker is being removed

I am hoping someone has experience of this. I presented at the breat clinic with large cysts which I needed draining. I went two months ago and was told from my mammogram that there was calcification and an indentation. On my first biopsy, clips were put in. I then had an MRI and a Vacuum Assisted biopsy where another clip was put in and I assume though was not told that the other clip/s were taken out. I have been told I have a Papilloma with no atypia from the first biopsy but now I've been told I need a third biopsy which is another VAE. When I asked why I needed another one, they told me it was just to take the clip out but I am confused by this as I was told it would stay in place for future mammograms to compare against. The tests have been going on now for two months. From the little I've been told, this third biopsy is just to remove the clip so why call it a biopsy?

Has anyone else had this experience? I've been told I don't have cancer in a letter but it was worded in a very specific way : essentially this is not cancer' was the wording used but yet they just keep going with the tests and while the nurses are wonderful, I haven't seen a doctor since my first appointment back in April so I haven't really had things explained to me.

I can't help feeling that I'm not being told the whole story so just interested to see if anyone else returned for a third procedure to just remove the clip.

Thank you

  • Hi Julied76,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand your concerns about this and that you have questions if you feel you've not been told everything. Your doctor is of course best placed to advise on this, so if you have an opportunity do try to speak to them about it to try to get some reassurance and understanding.

You may also find it helpful to speak to one of our nurses. If you'd like to do this, you can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Otherwise, if others here have similar experience to share then hopefully you'll receive some more replies soon.

    Wishing you all the best,
