Awaiting appointment

I was referred to Dermatology last week by my GP under the 2 week rule for a suspicious lesion on my face. Received an appointment for Monday of next week which was subsequently changed to a Plastics appointment on Wednesday of last week which I could not attend due to holiday. This appointment was then changed back to Monday however I then received another text message advising that Plastics had looked at my referral and decided it ‘did not meet the criteria for a 2 week referral’ and I needed to contact my GP to be referred to Dermatology as an ‘urgent referral’! I have done this and GP has re-referred me to Dermatology as urgent I am now worried that I will not been soon as quickly and I am concerned by how this has all been handled, especially as my GP is concerned by my presentation. Anyone else had these issues?

  • Hello Kittymac

I'm sorry to hear that you're currently waiting for an urgent referral appointment and that since the original referral was made by the GP you've been passed around different departments and experienced subsequent delays. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned about things.

Hopefully your GP has re-sent the urgent dermatology referral and you won't have to wait too long for the appointment but if you're worried about things you can always contact the hospital PALS department for advice and support. It's part of their role to help resolve concerns or problems when you're using the NHS.

In the meantime if you'd like to talk with one of our nurses for some support you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice they can.

I hope that you have some news soon Kittymac. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
