Tiny hard lump in armpit

Hi everyone. I've found a tiny, hard lump in the lymph nodes in my armpit - very hard to believe it might be cancer, as it is actually tiny. What is worrying me slightly, is that it is on the same side as I had a lumpectomy years ago and then around 10 years ago, I had a mastectomy after 3 separate cancers were found in the same breast.I have no idea what a swollen underarm lymph node feels like, except when I have a cold or whatever, and can feel large round lumps on either side of my haw. This tiny hard nodule is completely different. Any ideas?

  • Hello Londongracie

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently found a small lump. It's understandable that you may be feeling anxious about this, particularly given your history of breast cancer.

As you mentioned that your mastectomy was around 10 years ago now, I would presume that you've been discharged from the breast care team. If this is the case, please do get in touch with your GP next week and make an appointment to get this lump checked.

Hopefully the Dr will be able to give you some reassurance but if necessary they can arrange for you to be referred back to the team for further checks.

I know this may feel like a scary prospect Londongracie but I'm sure you understand the importance of getting any lumps checked as soon as you can.

Please do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

     Best wishes,

  • Hi. Thanks for your reply. I have seen a doctor this morning and she said the lump was 'pretty big'. She has referred me to the breast cancer clinic at my local hospital. Keeping fingers crossed it's more to do with a chest infection I had a few months ago and which has lingered.
