Little information worried partner: black small round mark and lesion on the vulva

Hi , my partner has found a black small less than 6 mm round mark and lesion on the vulvar
she is recovering from Breast cancer 3 years clear.

Gynacologist at the private hospital has decided straight to surgery to remove the part with lesion and the black mole.

has said very unlikely is cancerous but due to history best just to remove , but why not do a biopsy first ? Is this common to do straight to surgery ?
Don’t worry until you know is the saying but hard not to worry until then

thanks

  • Hello kevlarmc,

I am sorry to hear your partner has found this small mark and lesion on the vulva and I can imagine that having been through breast cancer, it is normal to be concerned. It sounds like the gynaecologist is not overly worried but is erring on the side of caution given your partner's medical history and sometimes even if something is not likely to be cancerous, the specialist thinks it is best to remove these lesions or moles. Ask your gynaecologist for more information on whether the removed lesion and black mole will be sent to the lab for analysis. You are right that it is best not to worry while faced with uncertainty but as you say, it is easier said than done. The best thing to do though is to stay well away from the temptation to look things up online as this will only make you feel more anxious. We have helpful tips on how to cope with waiting for news which I hope will help you get through the coming days.

Hopefully your partner won't have to wait too long for the surgery and it is reassuring they do not seem overly concerned. I hope that the surgery is a straightforward procedure and that it all goes well. Other members of our community may have been through something similar before and I hope that they will drop by and share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,
