NUT carcinoma. Anyone know it?

Hey, hope you all well,

Yesterday after having my kidney removed with a massive tumour 4 weeks ago, the results came back with NUT carcinoma which to my surprise my surgeon or the panel have never seen it some never heard of it.. He removed the tumour and was pretty sure he removed all the tumour so I’ve been referred & even tho there isn’t a cure for this form of cancer but i have read success stories. He still recommends I do radiotherapy & chemo. I’d even consider a clinical trial. I’m just wondering if anyone else known of this cancer? The treatment what can I expect? I’m just at a loss confused, unsure & worried for what the future holds.

  • Hello TheRareCase

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis of a rare cancer. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about this news and have questions about what this means for your health in the future.

Being diagnosed with a rare cancer often leads to lots of uncertainty for people particularly when it comes to treatment plans. It sounds as if your Consultant was confident that all the tumour was removed. It can be helpful to hold on to the positive news at times like this and not to look too far ahead into the future as this often leaves people even more worried.

We do have some information on our website about rare cancers but you might also like to give our team of nurses a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that as you move forwards with the recommended treatment, you feel well-supported by the care teams around you. Don't be afraid to ask questions and to reach out for help if needed.

    Best wishes,
