Bone Marrow Biopsy

Hi,

I had a bone marrow biopsy 4 weeks ago as I have had an increasing platelet count - last bloods showed 583 up from 435 4 months ago. This was done by haematology.
My question is - I know my biopsy was sent and I wasn’t expecting them back quickly, but has anyone else any experience of the average wait time please?

Starting to feel pretty under the weather but I can’t get hold of my GP to ask!

  • Hi KarenRoo,

Our website has information on bone marrow tests which includes biopsies but I could not find any clear indication as to how long it might take to get your results back. The page mentions that "if you’re having genetic tests on your bone marrow samples, these results can take a couple of weeks" and generally speaking many biopsy results can take a couple of weeks so as you have already waited 4 weeks I would definitely try and get in touch with your GP to ask - hopefully you will manage to get hold of someone even a receptionist who can look into the system and find out more for you. Alternatively you could try getting in touch with the specialist nurse perhaps at the hospital where you had the biopsy done.  They will be able to give you an update or an estimate as to how long it might take to get your results.

Waiting for results can be so stressful and it is bound to be a very stressful time for you. I thought I would share with you our helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Keeping everything crossed for you that you find out more soon!
