Follow up appointment after colcoscopy?

I had to go on a 2 week wait after my GP saw a lump in my vagina near my cervix, I was also having constant bleeding.

Before I went for the colcoscopy the 'lump' fell out into the toilet (heave).

At the appointment the senior nurse gave me a punch biopsy and painted some silver on my cervix.

It now been 4 weeks and the hospital want me to go back.

Is this normal practice or do I need to prepare myself.

  • Hello Missyell,

Try not to worry too much about having to go back after the punch biopsy. As you can see in our page on treatment if you have abnormal cervical cells, it is not unusual "to go back for treatment once they have your biopsy results". The NHS page also has useful information on getting your colposcopy results.

Feel free to give our cancer nurses a call if you would like to talk things through with them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be happy to answer any questions you may have on what to expect from this follow up appointment.

I hope this helps a little and that you will hear from other members who have had a colposcopy before and been given a follow up appointment too.

Everything crossed for you that it all goes well at the appointment and it all turns out to be fine!

    Best wishes,
