Looking for similar stories

Hello. I’m looking for some similar stories, or professional opinion, so I can get a feel for what might be next for me (appreciating that we’re all different of course). I had a hysteroscopy with biopsies under GA today, following abnormal endometrial biopsy result 5 weeks ago.

My initial results showed abnormal benign cells with distorted uterus. Today’s hysteroscopy showed enlarged (10 weeks) uterus, very thick lining (they stopped measuring, went from 11mm in March to 16mm in May), with a suspicious appearance (that’s what I’m most curious about - would a Dr write that on notes if they weren’t sure something was wrong)?

I have had several bouts of very heavy post menopausal bleeding, lots of discharge, some spotting, a lot of pain and trouble with frequent peeing. I have a cyst on my ovary, MDT thinks it’s benign. I’m 50 if that matters, last period was Nov 2022 I believe.

I had heavy bleeding with clots (sorry if TMI) at my surgery today (grateful for that so they could see what I’m living with) so the uterine cavity could not be distended, my cervix was ‘very dilated’ and the plan to insert an IUD for progesterone was abandoned due to wanting to ‘find out what we’re dealing with first’

I’d love to chat about this with anyone that knows anything about any of my symptoms or results, the wait for biopsy result is apparently 10-14 days, seems like a very long time at the moment! Thank you in advance

  • Hello Fostermum

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health concerns recently. It sounds like it's been a difficult time for you and it's understandable that you may be feeling anxious about the pending biopsy results.

Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long to hear from the gynecology team and they will be able to give you some clearer answers about why you are having these symptoms. We know that for many people, this period of uncertainty whilst waiting for results can be difficult. I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can ahead of your results. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that the team can give you some reassurance about the diagnosis and that they can set you on the path to improving things for you soon. Keep in touch Fostermum and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Fostermum,

I had very irregular bleeding n spotting on and off for 2 years during Covid. My GP thought it was just pre- menopause. But I felt something not right and went to have a scan in a  private clinic. The technician found my uterus lining too thick to measure and I was suggested to inform the GP about the scan result. The GP again said it was not abnormal. I waited for another 3 months and one day as I was still bleeding on and off, I went to see another doctor in a private hospital. The biopsy confirmed that it was endometrial cancer. At first it seemed to be grade 1 EC but the post hysterectomy finding showed grade 2 stage 2.

I had the hysterectomy and 21 rounds of internal n 5 rounds of external radiotherapy. I recovered very well from the treatments. It has been 2.5 years since then. I hope I will pass the 3-year mark uneventfully.

I hope my story does not frighten you. I hope your biopsy will turn out having no abnormal findings. If you need someone to talk to, I am here to help.

    Best wishes,

    Chui
