Bleeding post menopause

Hi I am 58 years old and post menopause. I started bleeding couple of days ago for first time in 3 years since stopping the mini pill. My GP has referred me to gynecologist and have had bloods done. The results are all fine and the C125 level was 26. I looked online and it says that under 35 means 99% chance no cancer. But I'm still so scared it's not right. Just asking if anyone else been through same thing.

My gynecologist app is just over a week away the not knowing for sure if messing with my anxiety.

Any advice greatly appreciated x

  • Hi, I went through same thing in December 2020 I was also 58 at the time. I had post menopausal spotting that started Christmas of 2020 so I contacted my gp, as it was Covid at the time it was done via telephone I told her I had been continuously spotting for around 2 weeks (not heavy bleeding) just there a little  when I wiped. I was referred for an ultrasound & had that appointment within 2 weeks, the ultrasound showed I had a polyp on my womb and my womb lining was thicker than it should be. I was then referred to gynaecologist at hospital for a hysteroscopy this appointment arrived within a week, the hysteroscopy was to remove the polyp & do a biopsy of my womb. Around a week later I received a letter to go back to hospital to see the consultant again. There I was told my biopsy revealed i had Endometrial hyperplasia with Aytipia (pre cancerous cells) I was advised I would need a total hysterectomy,  I then had a MRI scan to ensure it was contained in my womb (which it was)  had my hysterectomy in April 2021. The hysterectomy went very well  & I recovered well. I remember this anxiety so well, but try & remain calm, for me it’s the waiting around for results, talk about it to your family or friends or whoever you feel able to trust me it helps. If you want to know anything further please don’t hesitate to ask. Good luck. Xx

  • Thank you so much for the reply. I have an appointment on 17th they spoke to me on phone said they are going to do the ultrasound and if necessary a hysteroscopy at same app so don't have to go back a second time. I thought after having the blood results today that came back normal I'd feel relief but I'm still worried. Don't want to stress my family out by keep talking about it to them as we don't know it is anything serious.

My family are supporting me but just say not to worry but that's so hard.

  • Debbie all I can tell you is to take each step as it comes & deal with what’s in front of you. It’s good that scan & hysteroscopy can be done at same appointment. Take someone with you to your appointments the moral support will help greatly. Unfortunately I had to do it all alone due to Covid. Jot down any questions you may want to ask as it’s so easy to forget when you’re in front of someone. It’s being sorted whatever the outcome & that’s great news. Please let me know how it goes on 17th & I wish you all the best. Xx

  • Thank you so much for talking to me. My husband is going with me to the appointment. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again xxxx

  • Hate this waiting. I'm ok for while then it all comes flooding into my head again. I'm nervous about appointment but just want it to be here so least know either way.

  • Keep strong, not long for your appointment now. Nothing is certain either way & it could be a simple polyp or 2. For me I took each step as it came we can’t change what we don’t know. I’ll be thinking you. Xx

  • Thank you MrsO1233 for your kind words. I am trying but it is so hard. My hubby just says it will all be ok and kids are saying same. But think you're either a worrier or not. I've been through this waiting thing with my dad when we were waiting on results for his cancer nearly 5 years ago now. Unfortunately he lost his battle 6 months after diagnosis. He went through chemo and radiotherapy but just couldn't beat it.

He was so strong and know that was for his family. I just have to do the same. I haven't really told kids and hubby how frightened I am but it helps to be able to pour it all out on here. X

  • Hiya I have had my appointment they found a cyst on my ovary but we're not concerned going to do ultrasound every 3/4 months to see if it changes. The ultrasound showed my lining of womb thicker than normal for someone post menopausal. They did a hysteroscopy and took biopsy. Consultant said she didn't think there was any cancer as cervix, tubes looked clear but took biopsy to be safe. I am now getting worried as results not back yet. I won't feel completely at ease till get them.

The biopsy was mega painful and I bled quite a bit for the first week which has stopped now. They did warn me that could happen.

Just waiting now for a call or letter to come. Xxx

  • Hi Debbie, I’m so glad it’s all over & all went well. I agree hysteroscopy is not a great experience  it can take a while for results & I think the waiting is the worse. If it’s been a couple of weeks you can always call the hospital & chase  them up. Let me know how it goes. Xxx
