Not sure exactly what your situation is, but being put on the cancer pathway doesn't mean cancer is likely. Your GP has to refer anybody with any chance of cancer because they can't take chances. I think about 90% of cases turn out to be benign (not cancer).

I don't think they can really tell by feeling whether it is likely to be cancer or not. In most cases, I'd say they would refer if they felt any lump. Certainly combined with weight loss, they would be bound to refer. I wouldn't read anything into it yet.
