Smear letter results

Today I received my latest smear results, came back with positive for HPV positive sample results high grade (severe) dyskaryosis, will be having a colostomy.on the test day a polyp was removed that I was told looked non suspicious. Been through my sister having breast cancer (caught early) then a year later  then  had a hysterectomy due to cells being found, I know how anxious she was. Currently going to be keeping my results to myself as I don't want either my sister or my daughter fretting, work is going to find out when I have to show my letter as proof I need the time off. Being almost 60 I have counted my lucky stars that I was not having to go through what I have seen most of my family members gone/going through, said this to the nurse that took my test and she suggested  i ask gp for a cancer screening, ing. Although trying not to worry it's all I can think about at the moment.

  • Hi Crazycatlady59,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand that the waiting and uncertainty is difficult to deal with - it's something many others here will have experienced or may be going through currently.

I hope that it's not long to wait for your next appointment and any results. If you don't feel you can share things with those around you too easily, do keep in mind that this forum is always here if you need it, as a safe space to write things down and reach out to others.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Thank you, I received an email with a link that came sometime today, this has my appointment date,  also my drs/nurse are going to call me tomorrow afternoon, I'm going to need to have permission to have my phone on me as usually we are not supposed to have them .  I have chosen to to involve anyone with this until I find out what is going on for now, get all the information then take it from there, I'm pretty much a loner and rarely ask for help, more I'm happy to help others.

  • I had my appointment today, had pre cancerous cells removed and I'm assuming my cervix too, just have to wait for the biopsy results for that and my next appointment in about 6 weeks. It wasn't painful at all, just a little stinging in the beginning, I actually watched the process on the screen. Next on the agenda is to quit the smoking which is proving hard, having a diagnosis of high cholesterol just before the results of  the smear test have given me the kick up the backside I needed .
