Referral to Plastic Surgery Department

Hi,

I saw my GP last Friday to check a patch on my nose and he said it ticked all the boxes for a type of skin cancer (not Melanoma). I have received an appointment for next week but thought it would be to see a consultant/dermatologist to check if it is skin cancer. My appointment is for the plastic surgery department. Does that mean they will cut it out rather than check it? Do they do that immediately? If so, would I need to cancel my holiday I have 2 days later? Any advice would be greatly received as it’s all happened very quickly.

  • Hi VicW74,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. If the referral is for the surgery department then it does sound as if they plan to remove it, and likely then check it. However I'm not sure if your appointment will be for the actual surgery or an initial consultation. If you are able to, try to call your doctor or the hospital to get these questions answered so that you can understand what to expect.

You are also welcome to speak to one of our nurses if you'd like to. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,
