Neck and collar bone lumps

Hi everyone, just looking to see if anyone has similar stories that could be reassuring.

About a month ago, I noticed a small hard lump on the top left side of the back of my neck (after googling, I think it’s an occipital lymph node). Around the same time, I noticed a small, pea sized, squishy lump on the lower right side of the back of my neck and another one on the left too. After calling the doctor today, he said he wasn’t too concerned as I didn’t have any other symptoms like night sweats etc. but as soon as I got home, I checked myself again and actually noticed another swollen lymph node above my left collar bone. It’s small, squishy and moveable which I know is a good sign. However, I don’t know how multiple swollen lymph nodes between my neck and collar bone could be nothing?

I struggle with health anxiety in general but am so scared with this one as I can’t see it being nothing when it’s spread from my neck to my collar bone. I have an in person appointment with the doctor next week and I’ll be pushing for blood tests/scans.

Sorry for the long message, I just can’t seem to find similar stories so thought I’d reach out here, thanks x

  • Hi, I’ve found multiple lymph nodes, few in groin, 1 under my jaw and a couple in my neck. One is about an inch above collar bone. I’ve not been poorly and nothing to really explain why they are there. I have had bloods done, and ultrasound on neck (before I actually noticed the lymph nodes in my neck). All was normal so GP not concerned. She actually sent a letter to haemotologist for advice and they said they are not concerned as they are all small (pea sized), ultrasound and bloods were normal and I don’t have any B symptoms (night sweats, fatigue, weight loss). They said they can sometimes be felt on slim people. However, I’m still concerned so spoke to GP yesterday and she is referring me to haematologist anyway and I’m currently waiting for a groin ultrasound. Honestly think I’m making myself worse as i am constantly feeling my neck and thinking about it. Hope you get some answers soon x

  • Hi

I’ve had a persistent cough for 4 months and swollen lymph nodes in both sides of my neck and breast, first my GP referred me as non Hodgkin’s is in my family and I have symptoms such as sweats, nausea, extreme fatigue, and loss of appetite! I was referred to ENT first who sent me for an ultrasound which looked normal and they referred me to heamatology/oncology but I wish they had done a biopsy and I wish I spoke up for myself but I was that scared and overwhelmed I froze in my appointment!

anyway I have just seen the haematologist and requested a scan so I have just had a CT scan and I’ve just had bloods done but I’ve got to wait until next week for my results so not long but still a painful wait!

but I’m confused because it’s pre booked as a telephone appointment but will they surely not ring me before if it’s bad news to tell me to come in?

so stressed sending you all the luck in the world with your results

  • Thanks for your responses. I’m actually seeing my doctor tomorrow and I’m going to ask for blood tests to put my mind at ease. The lumps haven’t changed but for the past couple of days my skin has started itching. This hasn’t helped my worrying but I’m hoping the itching is from the anxiety and not anything serious.

  • Definitely ask for the blood tests.
Hopefully the itching is anxiety, I keep having sensations in my neck which makes me keep feeling it but I’m pretty sure it’s anxiety and all in my head as when I’m busy and push it to the back of my mind I don’t feel anything. Let us know how you get on x

  • Thanks for your responses everyone, hopefully you all get on fine too. My bloods came back totally normal and during my appointment, I asked if the bloods would show lymphoma and she said yes definitely. When you google it, it said bloods cannot diagnose lymphoma but I’m assuming she means they would be really abnormal if something like that were wrong? This really reassured me, however, I now have 2 new lumps at the front of my neck at the side near my jawline. They seem bigger than the others but still squishy and moveable. I don’t have an appointment with my doctor again for another 2 weeks to discuss this so in hoping they all start going away before then but I’m still quite anxious.

  • My doctor kept saying it would show up in bloods and the haematologist refused to see me as they said because the lymph nodes are small, bloods normal, and no symptoms they weren't concerned.
I had my ultrasound on Monday and they said everything was normal, just a few subcentimetre lymph nodes. Still no explanation as to why they would be swollen but I’m trying to move on now and stop poking them as that’s been making my anxiety worse.
I would try and push for an ultrasound just to put your mind at rest x
