Mole biopsy results

i had a mole biopsy over 3 weeks ago which the dr said looked suspicious but couldn’t be sure without biopsy being done. They said results would be 5-6 weeks and would be sent by post. I have received a letter today with an appointment with a dermatology clinical nurse specialist on 10th June and now thinking it must be bad news. If results are negative do they just tell you in a letter or do you get an appointment anyway. I lost my husband 2 and a half years ago after a long battle with cancer and going to the hospital was so hard as it brought back so many bad memories

  • I'm very sorry to hear you lost your husband to cancer Ladybaba, and that you are now anxiously awaiting the results from your mole biopsy. 

    This must be a very difficult time, but if you can, try not to jump to any conclusions or think the worst until you know more. Much easier said than done I know, especially when you were told one thing and it has been changed to something else, but there could be many reasons for this change.

    I hope it helps to know that many of our members have been in a similar situation, so you are not alone, and hopefully some of them will stop by soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you.

    Sorry to hear you lost your husband to cancer, but I believe you will always have a follow up appointment after a biopsy. I’d try not to second guess the results though. But that’s easier said than done. However you mentioned your follow up was with a nurse, I’d take that as a good indication that this is more of a routine than anything else. But looking on the bleak side I’m 2 years post melanoma diagnosis and the treatments and outcomes have greatly improved over the past few years and the announcement of recent trials makes the future more positive with new vaccines on the horizon , good luck and hope for you it’s just a storm in a tea cup easily disposed of

    Thanks for your reply. I know I am overthinking everything and thinking the worst. On looking at the letter again it says appointment is with consultant: then the nurse’s title or a member of their team. I remember when my husband was diagnosed he saw the doctor then a nurse who went through everything with us. It’s just bringing it all back this happening to me. Trying to keep busy to pass the time til my appointing on the 10th. Hope you are doing ok after your treatment

    Hi thanks I’m doing great and skin cancer isn’t  a death sentence, I appreciate the anxiety you must be feeling but do take strength that the treatment over the past few years has come a long way and the success rate has skyrocketed. Looking on the bleak side of things the first line of treatment is surgery, however it’s a simple procedure and nothing to fear. Because it starts on the outside and goes inwards means it more surface work, I fear the dentist more because they tend to be more intrusive. But good luck and hope all goes well
