7 Months of feeling hung over and waking up unrefreshed ( drink hydrate well, eat, sleep well, don't drink much, very very low units )

I'm a fit healthy 47 year old recreational cyclist with a steady low weight that has had to stop riding with much fatigue without doing any exercise at all

Symptoms since 2020 are a general need for a sleep after 4pm, maybe an hour if I can, I also struggle to drive and not fall asleep over 75 mins

I hydrate well, sleep well, consume virtually no alcohol.  It's all so odd.

I wake up unfreshed and just as tired as when went bed.

But, moreover , I have the feeling of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction EIB, of riding or doing exercise at 70-90% max heart for 5/6/7 hours on end just trying to ride 5 mins in jeans odd days.  Everything is a drag as I'm on a low ebb run down feeling and stopped riding 4 weeks ago and nothing changed.

I feel like I've been drinking the former night with that ethanol at the back of throat breathing out after drinking as a student when not drank for weeks.

I've also had a cold for 7 months that doesn't have phlegm or other cold symptoms other than ocassional coughs that last a week and feeling very run down.   Leg muscles are numb and dead, like lactic acid, just dead legs.    Like I've ridden 6 hours each day for a week on a week cycle holiday and I'm not doing any exercise at all for weeks.

My GP I've had blood tests for just said it's an Upper Respiratory Infection and after 7 months feeling like I'm hung over an run down I just don't buy it's a cold.  Or long-Covid.

I wonder if it is cancer where I can go if my GP isn't showing much interest.  Thanks

  • A very warm welcome to the forum zzhughesd although I'm sorry to read what you're going through. It sounds like things have been very tough and to not see any improvement in your symptoms over the last 7 months must be very frustrating.

Do try speaking to your doctor again about your concerns and ask what options are available to you. If you feel like your GP isn't listening to you after you have spoken to them, then you could try getting a second opinion.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon, but if you'd like to have a quick chat about this with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We're thinking of you zzhughesd and hope you start to get your energy back and feel better soon.

    Kind regards,
