10 week wait for red flag!

Developed very itchy tiny pimple on forearm in March, thought was insect bite,  seen GP 9/5 after it rapidly grew over 2 week period, continues to grow though slower now , GP referred to dermatology but it's a 10 week wait for current red flags! GP said may be benign keratoacanthoma but needs biopsy to confirm.

  • Hi Eagle64,

I'm sorry to hear you have such a long wait for a dermatology appointment. Sadly, many patients are coming on the forum & saying the wait is getting longer for a referral to dermatology. It's a bit of a postcode lottery - some areas of the UK are worse than others but an average waiting time appears to be 8 weeks at present. Even private consultations are taking almost as long - much of the problem is due to a severe lack of dermatologists, closely followed by longer waiting lists due to post Covid appointments & more patients being more self aware of skin problems & seeking medical advice. All I can suggest is that you contact the dermatology department & tell them you are happy to take a last minute cancellation appointment should one occur (if you can drop everything to attend). This sometimes happens so you may get an earlier appointment that way.

Good luck & I hope it turns out to be benign.
