Worried about a lump

Hi I am driving myself insane, so after some advice.

Found a lump inside my leg front lower thigh maybe 3 inches above my knee slightly to the left of centre.

Found about 2 months ago, three weeks after finding it noticed it had grown and booked an appointment with GP for following day. Locum GP in, couldn't quite work out what it may be, but said I will refer you for a scan as there is a lump, if you don't hear within a week give us a call.

Letter for appointment turned up day 12 after appointment but scan (ultrasound) is not until 3rd June. The lump has grown more since seen GP, it doesn't hurt although last couple of days had some sharpish pains around it.

It's more noticeable when I'm sat barely feel it when stood, it is quite hard to touch.

I've been trying my hardest to stay away from Google etc. But as it's grown more and really is noticeable compared to when first found. I'm starting to really worry.

  • Hello Lau8282

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently found a lump. You did exactly the right thing making an appointment to talk with your GP about this and it's good to hear that you already have an ultrasound appointment arranged.

It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about what this lump may be and why it's grown since you initially discovered it. We know that for many people this period of waiting for tests and results can be difficult and it's natural to have questions and concerns. Some people find it helpful to talk with someone about how they're feeling and I wonder if you might find it useful to chat with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 (excluding bank holidays).

Please continue to avoid Google. It won't give you answers but will leave you with more questions and concerns. You may find it helpful to read through the post by Moderator Sarah about coping with waiting for news

Hopefully the scan on June 3rd will give you some answers and reassurance. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi thank you for the reply.

Results are back on my NHS app, nothing has shown up.

The radiographer could feel the lump and just about see it when my leg is in a sitting position, he when scanning said 'this is frustrating I can see it and feel it but nothing is showing'

Tried all different angles and assured me that he would review on a higher definition screen again politely saying he can see it and feel it. And apologised could say no more.

Results on app say exactly that nothing shown up on scan. Advises in report to return to GP.

If anything this has made my mind worse now, as now gp has felt it radiographer has felt it grown more so and can make out there is something there with naked eye, but not shown on scan.
