Scared! Now referred for Gynae biopsy

Long history of infertility and losses. Now approaching 50. Was forced onto HRT because of risks related to infertility. Mentioned spotting many many times (on the pill, during IVF and on HRT). Mention it 2 weeks ago to GP and she went from 0 to 100 with little care or bedside manner. She is treating me as post menopausal which I'm not and it's never certain if I will ever do menopause. So because lining is 6.4mm she is referring me for an urgent biopsy. They've ignored the spotting for years told me it was normal, also ignored other unrelated tests! I'm so scared... I have 2 teenage kids and I know it could still not be cancer but my anxiety is through the roof, trauma right back exceptionally high from previous issues and I don't know what to do or where to turn.

  • Hello fairydust75

I'm sorry to hear that you find yourself thrust onto the rollercoaster of emotions that comes with waiting for a referral appointment. We know that for many people this period of uncertainty and waiting can be incredibly difficult and from your post, it's understandable that you're struggling with heightened anxiety about things at the moment.

For many people, it can help to talk to someone about their concerns and how they're feeling and I wonder if you might find it useful to talk things through with one of our nurses ahead of your appointment. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 (excluding bank holidays).

As you've said yourself in your post, these symptoms may not be caused by cancer. Whilst it's not always easy to do, worrying won't change the outcome but it will leave you feeling worse in the meantime, so try to keep a positive mindset If you can. You may find it helpful to read the post by Moderator Sarah about how to cope with waiting for news

Keep in touch Fairydust75 and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
