Thyroid mass

Good evening

I had an ultrasound of my neck on Saturday. Reasons for USS - swelling of left superclavicular area. The sonographer spent more time scanning my throat than my collarbone so I was relieved. Had a phone call at 9am today saying I've been referred to ENT urgently. Can anyone please help me understand the terms on the copy of the report? I understand if not... I just get mixed/unrelated results on Google and I can't make sense of it and decide whether or not I should be worried.

"Hypoechoic avascular mass with small equivocal hyperechoic foci" "falls into the BTA U3/5 classification"

Thank you for any advice

  • Hello joyce.a88,

It's difficult to know for sure, but you'll be able to discuss this at your next appointment. When youre worried that you may have cancer, it can be tempting to look for answers online, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. And the only person that can provide more information is your doctor so don't be afraid to ask questions or share any worries you have.

I hope this is helpful and the appointment goes ok,
