Symptoms & 2 week referral

Hi,

I had a bit of a scare a few years ago and unfortunately I’m having another one.

For the past 6-8 weeks I’ve had extreme tiredness so much so at the weekend I’ve gone from going out without issue to falling asleep on the sofa for 4-5 hours at a time. Along with this I’ve had muscle fatigue, lightheadedness, itchiness (my skin had a flare up of eczema but this has been different), loss of appetite, feeling fully easily and then swollen neck lymph node.

I went to the docs and they were great and sent me for bloods. When they came back they showed that I am folate deficient and vitamin d deficient. They started me on those but after 3 weeks I was feeling worse and I just get through each day. I went back and they have done more bloods and then felt my neck (I had forgotten to mention it in my first appointment as I get flustered easily) and could feel the lymph node raised. They have then referred me on the 2 week pathway for a neck ultrasound. I know this is a precaution but worried about it all.

My questions are I guess has anyone else had these symptoms and was it just deficiencies or autoimmune (being tested for this in my latest bloods) or was it something like cancer?

also what happens at the 2 week pathway? I had a call yesterday from my local hospital saying I have a phone call today with a nurse? Would they refer me back to my doc without an ultrasound or is it just to go through the symptoms?

thanks so much and sorry for the long post

  • Hello Worried30something,

I am so sorry to hear you are having another scare again. You did well to go to the doctor's and I am glad that they were attentive and sent you for blood tests. It's good that they felt your neck and that they were thorough and have referred you to have an ultrasound. Try not to worry too much though as lymph nodes can be raised for so many possible reasons. I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have had similar symptoms and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

How did the phone call with the nurse go and did you find out anything more? Our website has information on what an urgent referral is which I hope you will find helpful.

I hope you will have your neck ultrasound soon and that it all turns out to be nothing of concern. Keeping everything crossed for you!

    Best wishes,
