Waiting results - breast biopsy

This is very new to me , l wanted to say thank you to everyone who is posting there journeys on here. I started my journey on Monday, l went to the breast clinic after being referred by doctor. The morning was long and had two mammograms one 2D then one 3D, followed by a ultrasound. The news is that they are concerned and have taken a biopsy, also implanted magnetic bit of metal in the lump, they said just in case of surgery , l am in a bit of shock to be fair. I suffer with cysts for a long time and just thought it was that. My family and work colleagues are being incredibly supportive and to be fair l am doing okay, a few tears come and go. Jill the amazing lady who went through everything said that the lump is very small, they have scanned under by armpit to my lymph nodes and there isn’t anything there, l am feeling positive and on Monday l will find out, if it is Cancer Jill says it is very early and will be treated. The waiting is hard !!

  • Hello Wells,

A warm welcome to our forum and thank you for sharing your story with us. It sounds like they looked after you well at the breast clinic and were very thorough doing these two mammograms and ultrasound. It's good that they have taken a biopsy and I can imagine this is a really stressful time for you as you are waiting for answers at the moment. It's great that you have support from your family and work colleagues during this difficult time of uncertainty - this is a time when you will need to surround yourself with loved ones and keep well away from Dr Google who only creates more anxiety. Keep distracted if you can while you are waiting doing things you enjoy and have a look too at our handy tips to help you cope while waiting for news.  It won't be long now until you get your biopsy results and I hope that it all turns out to be nothing of concern. The lovely lady you mentioned, Jill, sounded very reassuring and it's great news that there isn't anything in your lymph nodes under your armpits and that the lump is very small.

Keeping everything tightly crossed for you! Keep us updated if you don't mind when you get your biopsy results.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Wells, I often think that the waiting is almost as bad as the results themselves!  At least when you have the results, you know that a treatment plan will be put in to action........the waiting makes you feel like you are in limbo doesn't it?  Please let us know what happens on Monday, I wish you all the luck in the world, xx

  • Hello, I too am very new to all this. Your journey mirrors mine exactly so far. I had all the same tests done yesterday, which was a call back appointment following my first ever routine screening. I’ve already been told it is probable to be cancer. I’ve only known this since yesterday, so am still in complete shock and trying to process this news with my family. I am asymptomatic, so would never have ever known until it had progressed further. Now I will need to wait until a week Wednesday to get the results of the biopsy to confirm. The good news is that they said it’s been picked in its very early stage. So screening really does really make a difference. I feel like my life is on hold at the moment, it’s very hard. I have to say though, the care that I received from the staff at the NHS breast unit I attended was amazing and that has really helped. I am also very lucky to have family around me for support.

  • Thank you for your kind words .
I really appreciate your message and support.

This is exactly like me,  it is a journey that l never really thought l would be on. The waiting is so hard, l have been focused and staying positive too, they said it is 75% chance and it is very early. I am so grateful for the support in this forum, and like you said the breast cancer screening team .
Take care, thank you for your message.
Please let me know how you are on Wednesday and what your plan is.

  • Thank Lucie, your message is very helpful and makes me feel better.

  • You're welcome Kate, best wishes to you, xx

  • I’ve been told that it’s an 80% chance, so again it’s very similar. Please do let me know how you get on for Monday and I shall do the same for mine, although it is still is a way off (29th). Thank you and take care too x.

  • My results have come and l have invasive ductal carcinoma

grade 1 or 2 oestrogen receptor high , herceptin receptive low

This week, l have had MRI scan with dye , 6 more biopsy’s and another mammogram. The consultant was very helpful and explained that want to do more tests which l have had then take it from there. It is contained, not in my lymph nodes. Either Radiotherapy / lumpectomy or Radiotherapy/ mastectomy , followed by hormonal tablets
I am being really well looked after, every one at the Hospital is lovely & kind.
I am relieved l know, just need to wait till 3 to get all the results back .
