Thankyou

  • Hello Shan786,

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck for next week and share information with you from our website to help you prepare for the colonoscopy. It's normal to be scared but I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone and so many members of our community have posted here before to share their fears after receiving high FIT test results. The important thing to remember though is that this doesn't necessarily mean you have cancer as other conditions can also cause elevated results. You did the right thing though given your symptoms to get this properly investigated and I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing too concerning. Waiting for tests and than again for results is always a very anxious time and I thought I would share with you our helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I will now let our members who have been through the colonoscopy process before come and say hello and share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Shan.. I saw my G.P as I was having multiple bowel movements [ good day 4 not so good day 10+] pencil thin, fatty stools,  low back and left abdo pain. Three screening tests and a positive qFIT result,  referred to Colorectal Consultant.  Received an appt for colonoscopy 4th June..

I've had the procedure before, not a great experience but I know it needs to be done.

Absolutely pointless for me to say don't be terrified,  so all I can say is try and relax, it really makes a difference.. now while you wait, during the test and while you wait for your results..

    Take care, thinking of you

  • If you don’t mind me asking what was your fit result, I just keep thinking mines high does that mean the higher risk of cancer, am trying to relax but can’t seem to stop thinking about it am reading all sorts everywhere everyday. Thankyou so much for replying and being honest

I hope all goes well for you on the 4th

    take care

  • Absolutely no problem Shan,  having a forum [ like this] is invaluable for support and understanding.

My qFIT was 13.5 I was told baseline here is 10 for positive result [Scotland] apparently health areas follow different guidelines,  just to complicate things..

If I may offer you a little advice [ respectfully] reading,  researching medical issues can be misleading,  upsetting and irrelevant in many cases.

Always reminds me of the example.. if you Google any medical symptom you will be given numerous options for diagnosis.. a lesson worth remembering..

    Take care

  • Not necessarily! I found several threads on here and other online cancer and IBS forums where somebody has had a high FIT test score (300-400+) and chronic symptoms, who updated their posts saying their colonoscopy found no cancer! And there are also people on here who have posted that they had considerably low FIT test scores and no symptoms who *did* have bowel cancer. Occult and visible blood in stool + such frequency is indicitave of something being off with your bowels, but that in absolutely no way always means cancer. Cancer is probably the least likely of them all. Could be haemerrhoids, benign polyps, IBD, diverticulits, proctitis, etc and yes it could also possibly be cancer, but not absolutely. I know this may be redundant but try to remain as positive as you can. And I know this waiting is stressful, but don't get yourself too wound up -- you will know everything soon. Best of luck with your colonoscopy!
